One Hen's programs, One Hen: Microfinance for Kids, and The Good Garden: Food Security for Kids, empower elementary students to become social entrepreneurs who make a difference for themselves and the world.
Each program introduces a compelling social issue, around which we provide flexible curriculum resources, web-based activities and hands on projects for grades 3 to 8 to inspire kids to four values: financial responsibility, personal initiative, global awareness and giving back. Our programs reach children in 142 countries and all 48 US states.
One Hen: Microfinance for Kids, the first enrichment program of One Hen, Inc. introduces children to microfinance and social entrepreneurship through award winning picture book One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference, lesson plans and website www.onehen.org. Students make a difference by starting micro businesses and donating profits and by playing online games including a virtual “bead fund” which matches each winning bead with a penny loaned to real entrepreneurs in Africa.
