One Hen empowers kids to become social entrepreneurs who make a difference for themselves and the world. We do this by equipping educators with educational resources to inspire kids to four values: financial responsibility, personal initiative, global awareness and giving back.

One Hen: Microfinance for Kids, the first enrichment program of One Hen, Inc. introduces children to microfinance and social entrepreneurship through award winning picture book One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference, lesson plans and website Students make a difference by starting micro businesses and donating profits and by playing online games including a virtual “bead fund” which matches each winning bead with a penny loaned to real entrepreneurs in Africa.

The Good Garden: Food Security for Kids, empowers children to be social entrepreneurs who combat local and global hunger through agricultural enterprise and service projects. The program includes a new book, website . and a Chutes and Ladders ® The Good Garden Edition Board Game for hands on learning.

In the US, One Hen works with schools, clubs and afterschool and summer programs in New York, Boston, Baltimore, Augusta, Detroit, Charlotte and San Francisco. Educational program partners include BELL National, and Peninsula Bridge. In addition, teachers in 48 states and 142 countries self-serve by downloading lesson plans from the websites and using One Hen resources in their teaching.

To date, over 32,000 children have participated in One Hen’s programs. Assessments of One Hen Academy show significant positive changes in kid’s confidence in starting a business, belief in giving to others, and improved business math comprehension.
